Nancy Dolan

‘Visual art, be it photography, painting or mixed media, has become an expression of my passion for life…a way to celebrate the grandeur and simplicity of nature. In my photographic journey, it brings me joy to “see” and capture the tiniest blade of grass to a stunning sunset reflecting in a mirror-like bay. My intention is to illustrate nature in a very abstract & impressionistic manner. I love to create an emotional response in the viewer - be it a long forgotten memory or a surprising ‘ah-ha moment.’

I have exhibited my artwork on Vancouver Island and mainland BC since 1992. In the spring of 2012 a selection of my photos were displayed on billboards in Times Square and in 2018 I finally got to Manhattan, New York to look up at all the overwhelming signage & imagined where my art was placed! I have been expanding my photographic art by exploring mixed media - acrylic & collage - as a medium for creative expression and integrating photos into it. My work is regularly displayed in regional gallery shows*, artisan markets, studio tours and local wineries. My repertoire of workshops is also growing and are offered at various venues around the Island. I am an active member of the Saanich Peninsula Arts & Crafts Society (Sidney), ArtSea Community Arts Council (Sidney) and Island Artisans Association (Victoria). Recent work can be found at BC Government House, SPAC Spring Show (Mary Winspear Centre May 13 & 14), Cedar Hill Arts Centre (April 2023) and in private collections in Canada, Australia and the USA.

I received an Award of Excellence by Photographer’s Forum Magazine Spring 2005-16; photos published in Canadian Camera Magazine, The Toronto Star and Boulevard magazine.

I offer workshops on The Art of Photography, How to Photograph Your Art, Having Fun Transforming Photos, 101 Textures with Acrylic. I also offer private or semi private lessons in abstract acrylic techniques in my home studio.
